MHS Blood Drive

On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Melissa ISD partnered with Carter BloodCare to host the Melissa High School Spring Blood Drive. The event provided more than 63 Future Health Professionals (HOSA) Students and 5 Health Science Practicum CTE students with valuable, hands-on experience in a real-world medical setting alongside trained healthcare professionals.

Carter BloodCare also provided leadership training for HOSA officers and created meaningful opportunities for Health Science CTE and HOSA students to actively serve throughout the day. Students assisted with donor check-in and check-out, pre-screening, sharing educational information, monitoring for potential reactions, escorting donors back to class, and helping troubleshoot any challenges that arose.

The drive set a goal of 121 units of blood, and not only was that goal met, but it was exceeded with 134 units of blood collected. Because a single unit of blood can potentially save up to three lives, Melissa Cardinals may have helped impact as many as 402 lives across North Texas.

“Thank you all for helping make another blood drive at Melissa High School a tremendous success! Whether you were supporting one of our students or simply giving out of your own generosity, these donations will make a meaningful difference for patients in need,” shared MHS HOSA Sponsor and Health Science teacher Shauna Causey. “Your willingness to give is truly appreciated and has a real impact.”

Mrs. Causey also wanted to extend a special thanks to the MHS teachers for their flexibility in allowing students to participate, Becky Waite for going above and beyond to coordinate supplies and logistics, and to the custodial team for their behind-the-scenes support.

It truly took a team effort to make the day a success, and the impact of this collaborative event will be felt far beyond the walls of Melissa High School.
