Melissa High School senior Maddie Fulenchek has once again earned one of the highest honors for a high school musician in Texas, securing a place in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) 5A All-State Band. This marks her second consecutive year receiving the distinction, placing her among the top one percent of student musicians statewide!
Reflecting on her journey to this milestone, Maddie shared, "I’m excited to be a part of the All-State band again because I worked hard for this, and it’s a great way to end my senior year. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support from my friends and family.”
Maddie was selected for this honor through a highly competitive process conducted at the District, Region, and Area levels. The TMEA All-State Band represents the highest level of high school music achievement in Texas, with more than 60,000 students auditioning each year for just 1,830 available spots.
Kevin McNulty, Director of Bands at Melissa ISD, expressed his pride in her success, “Maddie has truly made a name for herself as a top trumpet player at the high school level. She embodies the kind of student we want to represent Melissa High School at the state level. The entire band staff takes great pride in her achievements.”
Maddie will join other elite student musicians in San Antonio this February for the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention, where All-State ensembles rehearse and perform under the direction of nationally recognized conductors. The convention, the nation’s largest gathering of music educators, is expected to draw more than 30,000 attendees from Texas and around the world and features hundreds of workshops, performances, and exhibiting companies.
Melissa ISD congratulates Maddie on this outstanding achievement and celebrates her continued success as she prepares to perform with the TMEA 5A All-State Band during her senior year.
