Children's Health Virtual Care Logo

Melissa ISD is excited to announce our partnership with Children's Health℠ Virtual Care to offer your student School-Based Telehealth and Telehealth at Home. With your permission, the school nurse will use video technology to connect your child with a Children’s Health provider. Your child can be diagnosed and have prescriptions sent to your pharmacy, all without having to leave school or you having to leave work, in most cases.

How Does it Work?

  • If your child is enrolled and gets sick at school, the school nurse will determine if a pediatric provider is needed to diagnose the child based on Telehealth guidelines.

    • Under the Telehealth guidelines, this service may be used for the following conditions: asthma, allergies, cough, cold, flu, earaches, fever, head lice, headaches, pink eye, rashes, skin irritations, sore throat.

  • The parent will be contacted before scheduling the appointment and has the option to join online or by phone. Children’s Health also offers interpretation services as needed.

  • The school nurse will connect your child with a Children’s Health provider using video technology and conduct an exam.

  • If necessary, the pediatric provider will call in a prescription to your chosen pharmacy.

  • A summary will be provided to you and your child’s primary care provider to continue treatment as necessary. Children’s Health uses MyChart®, an internet-based medical record system. This system offers parents the opportunity to see more information about the online telemedicine consultation.

Is there a cost?

  • If you have commercial insurance or Medicaid, Children’s Health will collect and verify your coverage. With Medicaid, your visit will be completely covered. If you do not have insurance,  Children’s Health encourages you to continue using Telehealth as the bill will be no more than $50, and there are discounts available when you pay at the time of visit or shortly after.

How do I enroll?

  • If you are interested in this service, it is highly recommended to enroll ahead of time to streamline the process. To enroll, visit childrens.com/telehealth or download the Virtual Visit app.
