Melissa ISD families are invited to come together for a special community service event to help prepare students for a successful school year on Sunday, July 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Cardinal Renaissance Academy Gym (2950 Cardinal Drive).
Thanks to a generous donation from Verizon Melissa, 600 backpacks have been provided for Melissa ISD students. Community members are invited to help fill the backpacks with school supplies to ensure students begin the school year prepared and ready to learn.
This is a wonderful opportunity to serve together as a family while meeting other Melissa ISD families and staff.
How families can help:
Bring new school supplies to donate. Note: Families who bring donations will be entered into a raffle for prizes from local businesses.
Help sort and fill backpacks.
Meet school staff and build community.
Enjoy family-friendly games and activities.
Grab dinner or a sweet treat from the food trucks.
The backpack fill event is proudly sponsored by all Melissa ISD elementary PTOs and serves as an opportunity for the district and community to work together in supporting local students. Every backpack filled helps ensure another Melissa ISD student starts the school year feeling prepared, encouraged, and supported.
Calling All Local Businesses!
If your business would like to be part of this community-wide event by donating school supplies, hosting a booth, or finding another way to support Melissa ISD students, we would love to partner with you. Please reach out to your campus PTO for more information. Together, we can make an even bigger impact for local families and help students start the school year prepared for success.
Backpack Request Information

This multi-day event will welcome thousands of athletes, coaches, and volunteers to our community. Competitions will take place across several Melissa ISD venues, including the high school track, stadium, and gymnasium, as well as additional facilities such as the Z-Plex Texas.
Increased Traffic: As we prepare to host this large-scale event, families, staff, and visitors should be aware of increased traffic around Melissa High School, particularly for high school students during afternoon dismissal on Thursday, April 30. We encourage everyone to plan accordingly.
MHS Teacher Work Day, No School for MHS Students on May 1: As a reminder, Melissa High School will observe a Teacher Work Day on Friday, May 1. This will allow MHS staff and students the opportunity to serve as volunteers and assist with campus logistics, traffic flow, and safety. All other Melissa ISD campuses will remain open and operate on their regular schedules.
Opening Ceremony: The event officially kicks off with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. The community is invited to attend and help celebrate the incredible athletes competing in this year’s games.
