Marcus Eckert

Marcus Eckert has been endorsed by the Melissa ISD Board of Trustees to serve as the principal of Melissa High School, effective at the conclusion of the spring semester. Current principal, Kenneth Wooten, will move into a new role within Melissa ISD central administration to serve as the Executive Director of Campus Development for the district.

Mr. Eckert has served as the principal of Melissa Middle School for the past five years, after serving for two years as the school’s assistant principal. Prior to joining Melissa ISD in 2016 and throughout his 20 years in education, Mr. Eckert has also served as a teacher, head coach, and program coordinator.

Mr. Eckert shared, “My family and I are blessed to be a part of the Melissa community and school district. During my seven years as a Melissa Middle School administrator, it has been a privilege to get to partner with our middle school students, families, and staff to build an exciting and engaging school environment. I am humbled and honored to now be named the next principal of Melissa High School and to have the opportunity to partner with students, staff, and families in continuing the trajectory of excellence established by Mr. Wooten and the high school team. The high school experience is the pinnacle of a student’s educational journey, with graduation being the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. I believe the Melissa High School community’s collective effort and commitment to the 'Cardinal Way' will provide our students with the tools and support needed to evolve into productive members of our global society. I eagerly anticipate being a part of the Melissa High School team that inspires students to rise and shine as they continue their pursuit of academic, extracurricular, and personal growth to ultimately take flight toward post-secondary success."
Melissa ISD Board President, George James, shared, “I am very proud to announce that Mr. Eckert has been selected to be the new Melissa High School principal. Mr. Eckert has been with the district for several years and has made a long-lasting positive impact on many of our kids in the district over the years. I am also proud that we were able to select the new principal from the wonderful talent that is already in the district. I fully expect that Mr. Eckert will build upon the great success of Mr. Wooten and take Melissa High School to even greater heights.”
Kim Boedeker, Deputy Superintendent of Melissa Schools, added, “Mr. Eckert leads with his heart and inspires those around him to be their best by modeling every fiber of the 'Cardinal Way'. He has been pivotal to the success of Melissa Middle School over the last seven years and it is evident that Melissa High School will continue to be highly successful under his leadership.”

Melissa ISD is in the early stages of the hiring process for the principal positions for both Melissa Middle School and the Sixth Grade Center, as Will Daniel has been selected to serve as the principal of Sumeer Elementary School.
