East Cardinal Middle School is celebrating a major achievement in its band program as both of its 2025-2026 varsity ensembles have been named National Winners in the 2026 Mark of Excellence National Wind Band Honors project, sponsored by The Foundation for Music Education.
The ECMS Wind Symphony White, directed by Sasha Blankenship, and the ECMS Wind Symphony Red, directed by Bailey Hicks, were both selected as National Winners, placing among the top 25% of 525 entries from 40 states. This recognition highlights the musical excellence and dedication of ECMS band students throughout the 2025-2026 school year.
East Cardinal intentionally offers two separate varsity-level band programs, providing more opportunities for students to perform, grow and develop their musical skills. Having both ensembles earn national recognition in the same year reflects the strength of the ECMS band program and the hard work of its young musicians and directors.
As National Winners, both ensembles will receive feedback from adjudicators and be featured on the Mark of Excellence national compilation recording.
