The Melissa High School band’s wind ensemble has been selected to perform at the 2027 Music for All National Concert Festival in Indiana this spring!
Director of Bands Kevin McNulty shared, “We are so excited to be selected as one of the featured ensembles at the National Concert Festival held in Indianapolis in April. There’s a lot of groups that submitted for this honor and for us to be selected is quite an accomplishment. This will be great for our kids to meet other band kids throughout the country. They will also have the opportunity to perform in front of a ton of people in a beautiful auditorium. It’s going to be a lot of pressure but we are excited about the opportunity. We really do think it’s going to impact our kids' lives.”
The Music for All National Concert Festival brings together some of the nation’s top scholastic music ensembles for a weekend of performances, educational clinics, and learning opportunities. Students have the opportunity to perform in premier venues, receive feedback from nationally recognized music educators and conductors, attend clinics and workshops, and learn alongside other outstanding student musicians from across the country. The Melissa Wind Ensemble will perform a 45-minute concert at Clowes Memorial Hall in front of 2,000 attendees.
“As a senior this year, I would have never believed that the Melissa High School band program would ever perform in front of 2,000 people in Indianapolis! I am very proud of how much this band program has grown.” MHS Band President Jennifer Reynoso said.
“I am truly so excited to go to Indianapolis with the band and have a great time,” shared MHS Band Vice President and Junior Ishi Puvvula. "We have grown so much during my time in the high school band program and I am so proud of this achievement.”
Selection for the festival is highly competitive, with more than 100 ensembles submitting applications. Following an extensive application and audition process, the Melissa Wind Ensemble was selected as one of just 15 ensembles invited to perform at the 2027 festival. The process includes submitting program information, performance scores, and an unedited 12- to 20-minute audition recording, which is evaluated by a panel of experienced conductors and music educators.

As the wind ensemble prepares for its trip to Indianapolis, students will have the opportunity to represent Melissa High School and Melissa ISD among some of the nation’s top student musicians. From the application process to the stage at Clowes Memorial Hall, the experience will be a reflection of the hard work, growth, and dedication of the students and staff who make up the Melissa High School band program. The ensemble will take the stage in April not only to perform, but to celebrate an achievement that will be a memorable part of our Cardinals’ musical journeys for years to come.
