Planned School Safety Training for Melissa ISD Transportation at CKD Stadium on August 10

Melissa ISD would like to inform the community that the MISD Transportation Department will be hosting a planned School Transportation Active Threat Response Training (START) in the visitor parking lot of Coach Kenny Deel Stadium (3030 Milrany Ln, Melissa, TX 75454) on Monday, August 10.

As part of this training, community members may notice an increased presence of local, state, and federal law enforcement personnel, including police officers, SWAT teams, the FBI, and emergency vehicles in the area. Increased activity and vehicle traffic around Coach Kenny Deel Stadium are also possible as participants arrive and take part in the exercise.

This is only a training exercise, and there is no threat to the public. The START program equips school transportation staff with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions during a variety of emergency situations while strengthening coordination with first responders.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” shared Director of Transportation Kim Wouters. “By investing in proactive training and working alongside S.T.A.R.T. and our local authorities, we are strengthening our commitment to protecting students at every stage of their school day, from the moment they step onto the bus until they arrive safely at their destination.”

Melissa ISD is committed to providing a safe learning environment for students and staff. Training opportunities like START help ensure that transportation personnel and emergency responders are prepared to work together in the event of an emergency.
