Melissa ISD proudly welcomes Katie Patel as the new Melissa High School Choir Director. Patel brings 12 years of teaching experience and a strong record of student achievement and program excellence to the district.
Patel most recently served as Head Choir Director at Jasper High School in Plano ISD for the past six years, where she was named the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year. Since the beginning of her tenure, Patel has grown the choir program from 111 students to a projected 294 students next school year, demonstrating sustained growth and student investment in the program. Her choirs consistently earned superior ratings at UIL, and her students were highly engaged in the TMEA All-State process as well as solo and ensemble competitions. Under her leadership, the Non-Varsity A Cappella Mixed Choir was selected as a 2025 Invited Honor Choir at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention, one of the state’s highest distinctions for choral programs.
In addition to her educational experience, Patel is an active leader in the North Texas choral community, having served as an assistant conductor with the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas and was recently named Principal Conductor of the Treble Youth Chorus of the Greater Dallas Choral Society. She is also a recipient of the Texas Choral Directors Association’s Young Director of Distinction award.
Patel holds both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from Texas Tech University. She resides in McKinney with her husband who is the Head Director of Choirs at Highland Park High School, and their son, with a daughter expected this July.

Beyond her impressive accomplishments, it’s clear she brings a passion for building meaningful connections and inspiring young musicians to achieve at the highest levels. We are excited for the impact she will have on our students, our fine arts program, and our community.”

Where alignment across all campuses in Melissa ISD creates a seamless musical journey for every student, culminating in a high school experience defined by excellence, pride, and artistry.”
