On Friday, November 14, Melissa High School’s Photography students were given the opportunity to meet with five professional photographers during a Photography Guest Panel held at the Melissa Arts Center. This marks the first year Melissa High School has hosted a photography-focused guest panel, offering students a unique educational experience designed to expand their understanding of the field beyond the classroom.
Throughout the event, students asked questions, discussed industry trends, and heard firsthand what it takes to build a career in photography. For many, the panel provided valuable perspective and inspiration.
“It was nice getting insight into professional photography,” said sophomore Caius Caldwell. “I learned to take opportunities when they’re available because it can be a once in a lifetime moment that can’t be replicated.”
“I learned that you need to make a lot of connections in order to get your work out there,” junior Braydon Johnson said. “In the future, I’m going to step out of my comfort zone and try different things because I learned that it can be good for you.”
Cardinal Media adviser Karla Romero Paramo shared her excitement about the event’s impact and its potential to spark future opportunities for students. “I hope putting this event on is the beginning of many more opportunities to come for our media students. I’m so grateful to all the photographers who shared their time with us to make this happen. I look forward to future partnerships with local professionals and college campuses to continue expanding opportunities for our programs.”
The success of this panel sets the stage for continued collaboration between Melissa High School and industry professionals, helping students explore their interests and develop skills that may shape their future careers.
