Cross Country

Congratulations to the Melissa High School Girls Cross Country team who competed at the UIL 5A Regional Championships on Monday, October 20, with two runners qualifying for the UIL 5A State Championship Meet.

In the 5K race, junior Diem Casselberry finished with a time of 19:13 and freshman Grace Vuong finished with a time of 19:23. Both athletes did incredible at Regionals which proved their hard work and determination throughout the season.

“Diem and Grace had a highly successful cross country season, marked by consistent improvement, strong teamwork, and impressive individual performances.” Varsity Girls Cross Country Coach Zachary Hernandez said,  “Both athletes showed dedication in training, pushing themselves to achieve personal records this year. Their perseverance and competitive spirit contributed significantly to the team’s overall success, making the season a memorable and rewarding experience for both runners.”

As a freshman, Grace reflected on her first high school season and her team, “This year has been a great year for both me and the team! I have seen us grow together and get better over the course of the season. Personally, I have learned a lot and gained a better understanding of the sport, and now look forward to representing Melissa at the State Meet.” 

Congratulations to the entire team on an incredible season, and best of luck to Diem and Grace as they compete at the State Championships on Friday, October 31, at 9:30 a.m. at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
