The Melissa High School UIL Academic Team earned the title of 5A Academic Runner-Up (2nd place) at the UIL 5A-2 Regional Meet this past weekend. Along with the Academic UIL Team title, the Speech/Debate team was crowned Regional Champions for the 5th consecutive year. Two students were named Regional Champions in their respective events, and seven students will be advancing to the UIL Academic State Meet.
The Melissa High School UIL Academic Team had students participate in individual events at the Regional Meet. The individual students advanced to state in the following events: Headline Writing, Informative Speaking, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Persuasive Speaking, and Poetry Interpretation.
The UIL Academic State Meet will be held from Monday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 20, at the University of Texas-Austin campus. Congratulations to all the UIL participants and teachers who worked so hard to be here. Good luck at State!
