UIL released the new 2024-2026 alignment for football, volleyball, and basketball on Feb. 1, 2024. The Cardinals will continue to compete in 5A in all extracurricular activities and 5A Division 2 in football. Football will head to District 4-5A Division 2 in Region 1, while volleyball and basketball remain in District 9-5A in Region 2.
Along with Lovejoy and Denison, Cardinal football is joined by four Frisco schools, Anna, and Prosper Walnut Grove to complete the nine-team district.

The volleyball and basketball alignment remains roughly the same for the Cardinals. Princeton heads to 6A, while Anna and Walnut Grove join the new mix of eight district teams.
