Substitute Teaching

2025-2026 School Year

For the 2025-2026 school year, Melissa ISD will manage the substitute teaching program in the district. Melissa ISD will be responsible for hiring, training, and placing all substitute teachers and aides. If you are interested in working as a substitute for our district, you must meet the qualifications and complete the online application.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma, highest degree completed, and/or teacher certification

  • Requires proof of right to work in the U.S. (i.e. social security card, current passport, driver license, permanent resident card)

  • Must be 18 years or older

    • Must be at least 25 years old to substitute at a Secondary school (6th-12th grade)

  • Strong classroom management skills, maintaining a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and implement lesson plans effectively

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, staff, and

    parents

  • Patience and ability to handle diverse student needs

  • Adaptability, being flexible to adjust to different grades, subjects, and teaching styles

Pay

Note: The substitute teaching pay schedule is monthly. Please see the Monthly Payroll Schedule (coming soon) for pay dates.

  • Certified Teacher Substitute – $125

  • Degreed Substitute (Bachelors & Above) – $115

  • Non-Degreed Substitute – $100

  • Aide/Receptionist Roles – $100

  • Nurse (RN) – $150
