Free & Reduced-Price Meal Program

The Child Nutrition program at Melissa Schools offers free and reduced-price meals for students who meet the program qualifications. For qualifying students, a reduced-price breakfast meal costs 30 cents and a reduced-price lunch meal costs 40 cents. Students who qualify for free meals will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost each school day.

2023-2024 Free or Reduced-Price Meal Applications:

Qualifying families are required to complete a new application each school year in order for their child to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. If you have multiple school-aged children, you only need to complete one family application each school year.

Who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals at school?

Free or Reduced-Price Meal Qualifications:

  • If the child’s household gross income is within the limits described in the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines, as described in the application.

Free Meal Qualifications:

  • Children in households receiving benefits from SNAP, FDPIR, or TANF.

    • SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

    • FDPIR – Food Distribution Program for Households on Indian Reservations.

    • TANF – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

  • Foster children under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court.

  • Children participating in Head Start or Early Head Start.

  • Children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant.

  • Some WIC recipients.
