Melissa High School seniors Landry Burwell and Luke Nichols

Melissa High School seniors, Landry Burwell and Luke Nichols, have secured employment as service technicians at El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney, while also completing their final semester in the Melissa ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

Burwell and Nichols have participated in the auto tech program for the last two years at the Princeton ISD Career and Technology Center to prepare them for work in the automotive service industry.

Their job responsibilities at Chevrolet include oil changes, tire rotations, multi-point inspections, repairing and replacing tires, coolant flushes, brake flushes, transmission flushes, differential flushes, and fuel treatments.

Through the Melissa CTE program, in conjunction with Princeton ISD, Burwell and Nichols have each obtained entry-level certifications in brakes, steering and suspension, heating and air conditioning, and electrical from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Both students expect to earn their certification in engine repair by graduation, and in the future plan to get certified to perform state inspections.
