Melissa ISD invites the community to join us for a special celebration before kickoff of next week’s varsity home football game against Frisco Lone Star on Friday, Sept. 25, at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium. The championship celebration will begin at 6 p.m., with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
The spotlight will shine on the Melissa High School Boys Wrestling team, the 2026 State Champions, along with Boys Wrestling individual State Champions Maddox Fields and Vinny Ferrari, and Girls Wrestling State individual Champion Malia Griffin. The Boys Wrestling team claimed the state title with 153 total team points after sending 10 state qualifiers to the competition, with seven placing, five advancing to the finals and Fields and Ferrari earning individual state championships. Their season was marked by strength, determination, and a commitment to excellence, highlighted by Head Coach Oliver Pierce being named the 5A Boys Wrestling Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
During the celebration, members of the Boys Wrestling team will receive their championship rings, while the individual state champions will be recognized for their accomplishments, giving the Melissa community an opportunity to honor the wrestlers and coaches whose hard work made this championship season one to remember.
