The Melissa High School Bass Fishing team competed in the Texas High School Bass Association State Championship at Lake Texoma on May 30-31, placing in 7th place out of 112 high schools in Texas. The team competed with two individual groups against the top 187 state teams, with one group of Cardinals placing 4th overall in state!
After finishing Day 1 in 13th place, Colton Robinson and Nate Bodnar had a strong comeback on Day 2, climbing to 4th place overall and winning the $6,000 scholarship ($3,000 for each). The pair caught a total of 10 fish over the two-day tournament, weighing in at 26.97 pounds. Notably, each of the top five teams caught the same number of fish, making total weight the deciding factor in the final standings.
Billy Parengkuan and Nash Marshall also showed resilience throughout the competition. After bringing in just one fish on Day 1, they rebounded on Day 2 with four fish weighing 9.46 pounds, finishing 84th overall in the state tournament.
Congratulations to the Melissa High School Bass Fishing Team on an outstanding showing at the state championship and for representing Melissa ISD with excellence.
