MHS Fashion Design Shark Tank Presentations

The Melissa High School Fashion Design program gained hands-on insight into the fashion industry this past week as students in the Practicum of Fashion Design course presented their original products in a Shark Tank style pitch to the Red Nation Outfitters School Store sponsors and student leaders.

Over the past several weeks, students have taken on the full product development process, creating prototypes, establishing retail pricing plans, and designing marketing proposals. Their final challenge brought them into the “tank,” where they pitched their ideas to a panel for authentic, industry-style feedback and the potential opportunity to have their items sold in the school store.

Fashion design teacher Amy Klein expressed tremendous pride in the initiative and professionalism her students have shown throughout the project, “Watching these students take an idea from concept to a fully marketable product has been incredible. They’re not just learning fashion design, they’re learning entrepreneurship, problem-solving, and how to communicate their vision with confidence. This Shark Tank experience gives them a true taste of the industry, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work they’ve produced.”

From analyzing production costs and profit margins to building promotional strategies aligned with real-world retail expectations, students embraced the challenge and showcased creativity and business skills.

Junior Kinsley Essary reflected on the opportunity, "I'm in my third year of the fashion design program, and I really enjoy the freedom to create and the chance to bring our ideas to life. This project prepares us for the real world of fashion design. Not only the creative portion, but also the business side of it. I'm really excited to see my designs sold and worn by the people of Melissa!"

With innovation, teamwork, and entrepreneurial thinking at the forefront, these Cardinals are gaining skills that extend far beyond the classroom. We are excited to see the future of these students and hope to see their designs worn throughout the community soon.
