Sophia Helton, Gold Seal Winner

Melissa High School student Sophia Helton continues to shine in the visual arts with two of her sculptures qualifying for the Texas State VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) this year—one of which, “Harmony Branches Into Discord,” earned a Gold Seal award, the highest honor in the competition. This is not Sophia’s first time reaching the state level or receiving a Gold Seal, highlighting her dedication, creativity, and growth as an artist.

Out of over 32,000 student entries statewide, only 164 artworks received the Gold Seal, placing Sophia in the top 7% of all qualifying artists in Texas. Her work will now be part of a touring exhibition showcased at art conferences across the state.

Jurors for the event included college professors, professional artists, photographers, and experienced art educators, making this recognition even more meaningful.

We are incredibly proud of Sophia and her continued success in the visual arts. Her dedication to artistic exploration reflects the talent developed in the fine arts program and we look forward to continuing to watch her creativity grow.
