Melissa ISD has finalized updated plans for Kindergarten, Pre-K, and ECSE students in response to the widespread flooding that occurred throughout the Melissa Ridge Education Center on Feb. 16.

All in-person and virtual students in Kindergarten, Pre-K, and ECSE will return to school beginning Monday, March 1. Teacher assignments will remain the same for every student, but some classroom and office relocations will take effect for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

The district communicated more detailed information to parents and guardians on Thursday, which is summarized below.

  • All Pre-K and ECSE classrooms were impacted by the flooding and will be relocated to Harry McKillop Elementary. This relocation will not cause any changes for students in grades 1-5 who attend in-person school at Harry McKillop Elementary.
  • Kindergarten in-person learners will return to school at the Melissa Ridge Education Center. Six classrooms will remain in the east wing of the building, which was not impacted by the flooding, and eight classrooms will move to the Cardinal Wing, located north of the east wing. The main entrance to the Melissa Ridge Education Center is now the easternmost entrance off Fannin Rd.
  • Melissa High School students who currently attend class at the Cardinal Wing will be relocated back to the high school. Additional information regarding this change will be communicated by the high school to students, parents, and guardians.

Melissa ISD will continue to partner with the community on response efforts related to the flooding at the Melissa Ridge Education Center. For future updates and volunteer opportunities, please continue to monitor announcements posted on the Melissa ISD website and social media.
