Report An Absence

Regular attendance is essential for school success. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of instructional materials. The student and parents should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences. Student absences from school should be reported on the Melissa ISD Attendance Form. Student absences should only be reported by the child's custodial parent or guardian.

Please be reminded that Melissa ISD students may receive a total of three (3) excused absences, by parent/guardian note, each school year. In the comments section of the absence reporting form, please include an explanation for the absence. If the student was absent due to a medical appointment, please turn in documentation as explained below.

Late arrival and early dismissal may be considered absences. For secondary campuses, attendance is taken each period.

MISD Attendance Form

You must have your child's student ID to complete the Melissa ISD Attendance Form. The same form is used for all campuses.

Documentation After Absence

A parent must provide an explanation for any student absences. A signed parent note or email must be provided to the campus attendance clerk within three (3) days of a student’s return to school. It is the district’s practice that students may receive three (3) excused absences by parent note each year. The campus will document in its attendance records whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

For absences due to medical appointments, a written doctor’s note must be provided to the campus attendance clerk within three (3) days of a student’s return to school. The doctor's note can either be directly emailed to the campus attendance clerk or turned in to the school office. The doctor’s note will be used to excuse the student’s absence. A student who is absent for more than five (5) consecutive days because of personal illness must bring a statement from the doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the absence within three (3) days of the student’s returning to school. Otherwise, the absence may be considered unexcused and in violation of compulsory attendance laws.
