Melissa ISD is proud to announce that three elementary counselors have been honored with the CREST Award (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students), a statewide recognition from the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA). This distinction celebrates school counseling programs that demonstrate outstanding commitment to promoting student success academically, socially, and emotionally in line with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling.
The CREST Award was established by the Texas School Counselor Association to honor school counseling programs that exemplify excellence, effectiveness, and commitment to continuous improvement. The evaluation process assesses five areas: introduction to the school and the role of the professional counselor; program implementation cycle; foundational components such as structure, policies, and procedures; service delivery through individual and group counseling, classroom guidance, responsive services, and referral/coordination; and curriculum that supports career, academic, and personal/social development.
“We are thrilled to see our counseling team’s tremendous efforts recognized at the state level,” said Michele Doney, District Wellness Coordinator. “This award reaffirms our belief that supporting the whole child is essential to student success. Our counselors play a vital role in cultivating a positive, safe, and nurturing school environment.”
