Melissa Sixth Grade Center Student Recognized for 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academy

Melissa Sixth Grade Center student Robert Williamson was recognized as one of 710 outstanding Texas students who participated in the 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academies. The weeklong leadership program brings students from across the state together to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and explore Texas history, government, culture, and career opportunities.

The Lone Star Leader Award recognizes students who demonstrate leadership potential, academic achievement, and involvement in their school and community. Robert earned his opportunity to attend the Academy through an educator nomination while he was in fifth grade at Willow Wood Elementary.

Throughout the Academy, Robert participated in hands-on learning experiences designed to build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and encourage students to become engaged leaders. Students also had the opportunity to connect with other high-achieving students from across Texas and learn more about future educational and career opportunities.

The 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academies included programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio/Austin, and Houston/Galveston regions. As part of the experience, students visited notable Texas destinations, including the Texas State Capitol, Johnson Space Center, The Alamo, and the Fort Worth Stockyards, while connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences.

Since the program began, more than 20,000 Texas students have participated in the Lone Star Leadership Academy, continuing their leadership journeys through additional Academy experiences, alumni opportunities, and youth leadership roles.

Melissa ISD is proud of Robert for earning this opportunity and representing the Sixth Grade Center through his leadership, academic achievement, and involvement. Congratulations, Robert! We look forward to seeing how you continue to grow as a leader and make a positive impact on those around you.
