SGC Career Tech Survey Class

The Melissa Sixth Grade Center's Career Tech Survey class had a guest speaker on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Erik Leszka, a Procurement and Logistics Manager at DESCH, came to share insights about his career and the valuable lessons he's learned from various jobs. DESCH is a German company specializing in manufacturing gearboxes, particularly for windmills at the Dallas location where Leszka works. After wrapping up a unit on different engineering types, the class has now started a new one called "Jack of all Trades," making Leszka's visit a seamless blend of the two topics.

Leszka spent the entire day at the Sixth Grade Center, engaging with the Career Tech Survey class. He shared his career journey, starting as a U.S. Marine, earning a bachelor's in health science administration, and working for companies in roofing, submarines, aerospace, and ultimately, manufacturing gearboxes for windmills. Students had the chance to ask questions about each job, gaining insights into the lasting knowledge Leszka carries from his diverse experiences.

A key message that resonated with the students was realizing that, despite the differences in Leszka's career paths, the knowledge gained from each job proved valuable in his current role. Leszka emphasized how this accumulated knowledge has made him an irreplaceable team member in his current company.

Thank you Leszka for your time and for encouraging the Career Tech Survey class to never stop learning!
