Cell Phone Policy

A new Texas state law, House Bill 1481, requires all school districts to prohibit student use of personal communication devices during the school day. In compliance with this law, beginning August 19, 2025, Melissa ISD students will not be allowed to use personal phones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, wireless earbuds, portable gaming devices, or any personal communication devices from the beginning of the school day until the end of the school day, including lunch and passing periods. All devices must be turned off and stored in a backpack or purse.

To ensure full compliance with this legislation, Melissa ISD has carefully considered legal guidance, community feedback, and collaboration with campus leadership to update our policies in a way that promotes a safe environment, keeps our families connected, and supports best instructional practices.

The updated policies and procedures will be reflected in the MISD Student Handbook and MISD Student Code of Conduct, which will be posted following board approval on August 18, 2025.

Please review the updated guidelines with your child. For more information, including answers to frequently asked questions, visit www.melissaisd.org/devices.
