The Melissa ISD Dyslexia team has gone above and beyond the state standards for dyslexia certifications through their hard work, dedication, and commitment to continuous learning, each member of the entire team is now a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT).
Becoming a CALT is a rigorous, two-year commitment that now requires a master’s degree. The certification process includes a minimum of 200 instructional hours in Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE), 700 practicum hours under a qualified instructor, and at least 10 demonstration lessons. Candidates must also pass the Academic Language Therapy (ALTA) Competency Exam for MSLE to earn the CALT designation.
“This is the first time that every dyslexia therapist in our district is a Certified Language Therapist,” said Tammy Murphy, Melissa ISD Dyslexia Director. “Needless to say, it is not an easy task to achieve. I am so very proud of our entire Dyslexia Team for achieving CALT status!”
This milestone reflects the dedication and commitment of Melissa ISD’s Dyslexia team to providing specialized, research-based instruction that empowers students to become confident, successful readers.
Congratulations to our MISD Dyslexia Team: Adrienne Cockerham, Erin Rehberg, Jamie Hales, Julie Waters, Kelly Chaloupka, Laurel Ross, Lynn Chambers, Lynn Salo, Mackenzie Lowry, Tammy Conkling, Tammy Murphy, Sharla Gant
