Melissa ISD is proud to welcome thousands of athletes, volunteers, and families to our community for the 2025 Special Olympics Texas Summer Games, taking place May 1–4, 2025. This four-day celebration of athleticism, inclusion, and community spirit marks the first time Melissa has hosted the prestigious event — and it’s only the beginning! Thanks to a five-year partnership, the Summer Games will call Melissa home through 2029.
We are expecting over 10,000 attendees, including more than 3,000 Special Olympic athletes and an estimated 2,000 volunteers from across the state. Competitions will take place at multiple venues throughout Melissa ISD, including Coach Kenny Deel Stadium, the high school track and gymnasium, and additional facilities such as the Z-Plex.
Melissa ISD Athletes to Watch:
Melissa ISD is thrilled to announce that 22 of our own athletes will proudly represent our district in the track and field events happening Friday through Sunday. Their dedication and hard work embody the true spirit of the Games, and we couldn't be prouder to cheer them on.
Don't Miss the Opening Ceremony:
The excitement continues Friday evening with the Opening Ceremony, hosted at Coach Kenny Deel Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m. The ceremony will feature a very special performance by the Melissa ISD State Champion Special Olympics Cheer Team, celebrating the energy and determination of all participants. Additionally, cheer on our Melissa ISD Police Department as they participate in the Torch Run this evening as well.
