Clay Singletary serves as the Director of Color Guards and Coordinator of Marching Arts at Melissa High School, bringing a wealth of experience to his role. A Rockwall native and graduate of Rockwall Heath High School, Mr. Singletary has previously held positions as Associate Director of Bands at Little Elm High School and Director of Color Guards/Assistant Band Director at Allen High School. Throughout his tenure, his concert bands consistently received superior ratings at UIL Concert & Sight Reading events. In his eight years at Allen, he led the Colorguard program to become a consistent North Texas Colorguard Association Champion and a WGI Medalist, with highlights including the Allen Marching Band’s participation in the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2016 and the Allen Colorguard’s 2017 NTCA National A Champion title. Mr. Singletary was also recognized as Teacher of the Year at Allen High School in 2015. Known as an accomplished designer, choreographer, and clinician, Mr. Singletary has worked with numerous Texas ensembles. Within his first year at Melissa High School, the Melissa High School Color Guard was named the 2024 North Texas Colorguard Association Scholastic A Class Champions and a WGI Regional Finalist.
Mr. Singletary graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University and later earned a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce. During his time at SFASU, he was active in the Lumberjack Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, and the Orchestra of the Pines. His performance experience includes work with the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps, CGT Denton Independent World Winterguard, Mirage Performance Ensemble, and other notable ensembles. He has also served on staff for the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps and Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.
Mr. Singletary is an active member of Texas Music Educators Association, as well as professionally affiliated with Phi Beta Mu National Honor Society, Tau Beta Sigma National Music Sorority, and Theta Chi Fraternity.
When Mr. Singletary is not teaching, he enjoys exercising, cooking, watching movies, spending time with family and friends, and his dog, Seaton.
