Coach Billy Watkins, in his third year at Melissa ISD, brings 30 years of experience as a high school teacher and coach, currently leading boys' and girls' golf teams while teaching Government. With a coaching tenure of 27 years, he's secured 8 state tournament appearances, earning a state runner-up trophy in 2002. Watkins, who holds a Finance degree from East Texas State University, brings a wealth of expertise to both the classroom and the field.
Before joining Melissa ISD, Watkins spent 24 years at Rockwall ISD, leaving a notable impact on its athletic programs. Additionally, he served at Leonard ISD for 3 years at the start of his career. As a former three-sport standout athlete, Watkins excelled in Football, Soccer, and Baseball, earning All-District and All-State honors. At East Texas State University, he set numerous NCAA II records, including the all-time leading scorer at the time.
Outside of work, Watkins enjoys spending time outdoors, like playing golf, riding side-by-sides, mowing yards, or just hanging out with family and friends. His wife, Lori, is also in education serving as a diagnostician. They have two kids who are already out of school and enjoying their careers. Three dogs and a cat also run the Watkins household when the family is at home.
