The Melissa High School Girls Wrestling program's mission is to empower girls through the sport of wrestling to become better in all facets of their lives and to use this empowerment to become a better, well-rounded person.

Rick Gagarin

Head Coach Rick Gagarin

Rick Gagarin, the Head Girls Wrestling Coach, graduated from the University of Oklahoma and has amassed over 30 years of coaching and teaching experience in Texas. With 17 years dedicated to coaching wrestling, predominantly in Melissa, Texas, where he spent 15 years and two in McKinney, Gagarin has consistently guided wrestlers to the Texas State Wrestling Tournament for 11 consecutive years. Additionally, he served as the first Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for Melissa ISD from 2003 to 2007. Notably, Gagarin coached on the 2011 Melissa Football State Champion Team. Since 2008, he has also taught Engineering and ventured into coaching Robotics in 2015, leading the Robotics team to eight State Tournaments with three UIL State Runner-Up titles and one State Champion Engineering Team. Gagarin has steered over 30 teams in Melissa to state-level competitions as a head coach or assistant coach since 2003.

Outside of teaching and coaching, Rick Gagarin enjoys spending time with his family. He has been married for a decade to his wife, who teaches at Collin College. They have two college-aged children attending the University of Kansas and Victoria University BC, with one studying film and theater, and the other studying archeology and anthropology.
