Athletic Trainers: We provide evaluation and rehabilitation for all musculoskeletal injuries. 

Student Program: The Melissa Athletic Training Program encourages kids to be servant leaders in the classroom, community and the field/court. We strive to be great communicators, have accountability, and to work as a team.

Need to See the Athletic Trainer?

Melissa ISD has full-time Athletic Trainers on staff to assist our athletes with injury prevention, evaluation, acute care, treatment, and rehabilitation services. We provide evaluation and rehabilitation for all musculoskeletal injuries. Please view the scheduling guidelines below to be seen.

High School Students

Hours and Location:

  • All treatments and evaluations are done out of the Main Athletic Training Room located in the Melissa Championship Center.

  • Treatment times for in season athletes are done 30 minutes before your practice or by appointment during lunch.

  • Treatment times for off season athletes are 7am-8am, 4-5pm, or during your athletic period. 

Middle School Students

Hours and Location:

  • All treatments and evaluations are done in the Melissa Middle School Field House

  • Treatment times vary. In order to be seen by the athletic trainer, schedule an appointment at the following link: https://melissamsat.setmore.com

Student Athletic Training Program

About the Program: Our students learn first aid, CPR, anatomy, rehabilitation, taping and emergency care. They work with all sports on campus and assist the staff Athletic Trainers to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes.

  • Applications for the MMS program are open each spring for students to apply. Please listen to the announcements at your respective campus, SGC or MMS, for more information regarding the timeline and requirements.

  • Applications for the 2024-2025 school year closed on March 1, 2024. 

Meet the Athletic Trainers

Head Athletic Trainer Allie Berman

Coach Allie Berman is excited to be the Cardinals’ Head Athletic Trainer. For the past 5 years, she has worked as an Athletic Trainer at Melissa High School, in Melissa, Texas, serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for 2 years. Over that time, she has grown the Student Athletic Training program from 10 kids to 25 kids. In 2023 her program earned the “Team Behind the Team” Award from Children’s Andrews Institute/ Dave Campbell’s.

Coach Berman worked for Forney ISD as their Assistant Athletic Trainer/Sports Medicine teacher for 1.5 years prior to joining team Melissa . Coach Berman was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Texas with her husband in 2018. She attended California State University, Long Beach where she earned a bachelor of science in Athletic Training.

Her and her husband, Scott Berman, enjoy traveling together and their dog named Pepper.Coach Berman loves the garden and bake in her free time.

Asst Athletic Trainer & CTE Teacher Brianna Williams

Coach Williams has been with Melissa ISD since 2022. She is currently in her third year as a certified athletic trainer and her fifth year of teaching.

She received degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and LeTourneau University. While attending college, she played softball at LeTourneau University. Coach Williams was born in Dallas, Texas but grew up in Detroit, Texas, and attended Detroit High School.

She is a huge Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas Cowboys fan. She enjoys shopping, reading, cooking, and spending time with friends and family; including her English Bulldog, Charles.

Asst Athletic Trainer & CTE Teacher Allison LaStrapes

This is Coach LaStrapes' second year practicing as an Athletic Trainer and second year in Melissa ISD. She is located primarily at the middle school, but can be seen helping out at the high school during the busier times of year. Along with being an athletic trainer, Coach LaStrapes also teaches Principles of Exercise Science and Wellness at the middle school.

Coach LaStrapes earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Master of Science in Athletic Training from Texas A&M University in College Station. While at Texas A&M, she had the opportunity to work with the Texas A&M football, softball, and track & field teams along with the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, College Station High School, and Tuloso-Midway High school.

When Coach LaStrapes is not at school she enjoys spending time with her dog, Charlie, and visiting her family down in South Texas.
