Two students from the Melissa Choir program, Rachel Wresh and Andru Wilson, were selected for the Texas All-State Small School Choir after competing at the district, region, and area levels.
All-State recognition is the highest honor that a Texas music student can receive. Over 72,900 students initially entered the All-State competitive process; Rachel and Andru were two of 1,780 students across the state who were selected to perform in an All-State ensemble.
During the area competition, the third and final level of competition in the All-State process, students were required to sing challenging pieces of music and sight-read for a panel of judges.
Rachel Wresh, senior, was named First Chair Soprano in the Texas All-State Small School Choir. Andru Wilson, junior, was named Third Chair Tenor. This is the fourth consecutive year that Rachel has placed in the All-State Choir and the first year for Andru. Both students sing in the Melissa High School choir under the direction of Ryan Smith.
Rachel and Andru will rehearse and perform with the distinguished members of the Texas All-State Small School Choir at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in February.
