Spring 2020 Report Cards, Grading & STAAR Testing

The third nine weeks grading period at Melissa Schools ended on Friday, March 27, 2020. Quarterly report cards will become available this week. Each school’s Remote Instructional Support Plan has been updated to reflect grading practices during the fourth nine weeks of school. In addition, Melissa ISD will not be administering STAAR testing this spring. See below for additional details.


No Spring 2020 STAAR Testing

Melissa ISD will not administer Spring 2020 STAAR testing. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced on Monday, March 16, 2020 that Governor Greg Abbott has waived the STAAR testing requirement to allow schools to focus on public health while investing in the capacity to support remote student learning.


Third Nine Weeks Report Cards

Third nine weeks report cards will be available by the end of the day on Friday, April 3, 2020.

  • Kindergarten – 3rd Grade: Third nine weeks report cards will be directly emailed to the parent or guardian.
  • 4th – 12th Grade: Third nine weeks report cards will be posted in Parent Portal.

Fourth Nine Weeks Grading

Each school’s Remote Instructional Support Plan has been updated to include information on grading practices during the fourth nine weeks of the 2019-2020 school year. In general, standard grading practices will be followed.

The remote instruction plans are available at www.melissaisd.org/remote and the grading practices are also outlined below, for your convenience.


Melissa High School

Melissa High School Grading Practices

  • Melissa High School will follow the standard grading practices during the remote instructional support period.
Melissa Middle School

Melissa Middle School Grading Practices

  • Grades earned during the week of March 23, 2020 may be included in the student’s third nine weeks average. No student will fall below the 70% threshold for the third nine weeks grading period.
  • Melissa Middle School will follow the standard grading practices during the remote instructional support period. Teachers may utilize participation grades and extend timelines for corrections and re-tests, at their discretion.
Melissa Elementary Schools

Melissa Elementary Schools Grading Practices

  • Melissa elementary schools will follow the standard grading practices during the remote instructional support period. The number of grades taken and methods will adjust to fit the remote learning delivery system.
