Student Guest Blog: Recapping the 2016 District 14-4A Lady Cardinal Track Meet

The Lady Cardinals took part in a 4A district on April 14-15th 2016 the Melissa Lady Cardinals track meet in Princeton, Texas. After an exhilarating journey, The Lady Cardinals put all their effort in and came out swinging in the district track meet. The Melissa Lady Cardinals placed 2nd in the district track meet, and took a handful of girls to Area. In field events we had 4 girls make it to area.

Pole vaulting consisted of the The agile vaulters, Hannah Tenney getting 8 feet and 6 inches climbing the pole to 1st and Marisa Brunson got 8 feet placing 3rd. Also participating for the Lady Cardinals was the strong Krista Butterfield so close to making but falling a little short. In Triple Jump we had the fierce competitor Layne Williams jumping her way to area getting 33 feet which resulted in her landing 3rd place. In the High Jump we had Jada Clark trying her hardest participating and put her all in. Last but not least we had Priscilla Adejokun, stretching her arm far enough to get 41 feet and 2 inches placing her 1st place and spinning her way to get 114 feet and 4 inches landing 3rd place in Discus. Also, competitors who worked hard for this moment and fought their way through was Naudia Monroe, Reese Murphy in Shot Put. In Discus was Kaleigh Cameron and Alyssa Rose. We also had the dynamic duo Mady Bambico and Lauren Zepeda throwing in both events.

The Melissa Lady Cardinals dominated in the running events. Starting with the 100 meter dash we had our very own Karrington Lewis running a dashing time of 12.19 breaking the school record. We also had Naudia Monroe and Bri cole running their hardest and kicking butt in the 100. If that was not enough another record was broken by Karrington Lewis in the 200 meter dash with a speeding time of 25.40. In the 200 meter dash we also had our tough competitors Charley Lane and Natalie Courtney.

So close to breaking her own school record Gill Gray strided her way to 1st place with a time of 57.78. Joy sparks came out and shined and placed 4th with a wonderful time of 1:06.33. In the 800 meter run, The Melissa Lady Cardinals were proud to have Elisa Hawn and Joy sparks. Elise Hawn had her whole team cheering her on and she worked her way to 3rd place, making it  to area. Skyla Mackey participated in 3200 and 1600 meter run pacing herself and keeping a good steady pace landed our everlasting runner 4th in the 3200 and 5th in the 1600.

We had some amazing running going on during the hurdling events. In the 100 Meter hurdles we had Maddie Kane running the hurdles without breaking a sweat. She  paced 1st with a time of 15.05. Layne Williams also jumping the hurdles getting 4th with a time of 17.51 and we also had another hard working competitor in Haylee Crow. In the 300 meter hurdles we had Maddie Kane placing 1st place with a time of 45.10 breaking another school record. We also had an amazing competitor Jasmine Clark, trying her hardest, with a time of 52.07.

Our amazing relays scored us a lot of points. The Melissa Lady Cardinals placed 3rd in the 4×100 which consisted of Natalie Courtney, Charley Lane, Maxine Anderson, and Esthy Uyi. They also placed 3rd place in the 4×200 with competitors Natalie Courtney, Charley Lane, Ariel Watson and Esthy Uyi. After a long deliberation, The breathtaking 4×400 relay had runners Gill Gray, Karrington Lewis, Layne Williams and Maddie Kane catching 1st place, with a time of 4.04.77. This night has its twists and turns but had a good ending. Next week the Lady Cardinals will be Participating in Area, reaching for a victory.
