The Ascender Parent Portal gives Melissa ISD parents and guardians the option to receive attendance alerts by email or text message throughout the school year. As a parent or guardian, you can control whether or not you receive daily attendance alerts for each student in your household.


If you have attendance alerts turned ON in the Parent Portal:

In-Person Learners: If your student does not attend school on campus, you will receive an attendance alert saying that your student was marked absent for the day.

Online Learners: For students learning from home via Schoology, attendance reporting is delayed by one day to allow for asynchronous student engagement.

  • This means that your student will always be marked absent for the day and the absence will be corrected the following business day as long as your student logged in to Schoology by 11:59 p.m.
  • If you choose to keep attendance alerts turned on in the Parent Portal, you could receive up to two attendance alerts for each school day.

If you have attendance alerts turned OFF in the Parent Portal:

You will not receive an attendance alert by email or text message if your student is counted absent, but you will still be able to log in to the Parent Portal to monitor your student’s attendance.


How to update your attendance alerts in the Parent Portal:

  1. Log in to the Ascender Parent Portal.
  2. Select “Alerts” from the navigation menu and select “Set Alerts”.
  3. Under “Attendance Alerts”, you can set your alert preference for Unexcused Absences, Excused Absences, and Tardies. Your changes will automatically save.
