Stay Connected

This page serves as an overview of how we communicate with the families of Melissa Schools, and how you as a parent or guardian can stay connected during the school year.

General Communication

Unexpected School Delays & Closures

The district will make every effort to notify parents of an unexpected two-hour delay, early release, or full-day closure as early as possible, with careful consideration of the safety of students, parents/guardians, staff, and notably, our bus drivers.

The district does not typically send out a notification if schools are open and operating as usual. If there is a two-hour delay, buses will run and schools will open two hours later than their normal start time.

Methods of Communication
The district will use the following methods of communication to announce unexpected school delays or closures. This communication process applies to any unexpected two-hour delay or full-day closure at Melissa Schools.

Official Website & Social Media
A delay or closure notification will be posted on the home page at www.melissaisd.org and shared on the district’s official Twitter account (@MelissaISD) and official Facebook page (Melissa ISD).

Email, Text & Call to Parents
A notification will be communicated to parents by email, text, and/or phone call through our district messaging system. To ensure that you receive district notifications, please keep your contact information current in the HAC. For the steps to take to update your contact information, visit the HAC Support page.

Local News Media
Additionally, when necessary, the district will communicate delay and closure information to local television networks such as WFAA8/ABC, CBS11 DFW, NBC5, and FOX4 for their website listings and broadcasts.
