Students who will enter 9th grade at Melissa High School in the fall of 2023 are expected to be the first Melissa ISD graduating class to have the opportunity to apply for participation in the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) programme during their 11th and 12th grade years.

Parents and guardians of current 8th grade students at Melissa Middle School who may be interested in taking IB courses in high school are encouraged to attend one of two IB Preparation Meetings for Incoming Freshmen in January to learn more about the following:

  1. reasons a student may be a good candidate for IB,
  2. the differences between IB, Advanced (Honors), and Academic courses,
  3. what IB courses could be offered at Melissa High School,
  4. how IB course grades could be calculated in the student's GPA and class rank,
  5. the IB application and exit processes.

The purpose of the meeting is to answer the question, "What is IB and what does it mean for my current 8th grade student?" For those families who have already attended an introductory meeting for IB offered by Melissa ISD, please be advised that the IB Preparation Meetings will be more extensive and specific to incoming freshmen for the 2023-2024 school year.

There are two upcoming opportunities to attend an IB Preparation Meeting for Incoming Freshmen: Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Melissa ISD Home Office, 1904 Cooper Street, and Monday, Jan. 23, 2023 from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Melissa Middle School. As the IB programme is developed at Melissa Schools, more information and resources will continue to be published online at www.melissaisd.org/ib.
