With the information the district currently has, Melissa ISD is planning to offer a new virtual online school option for grades 6-12 beginning with the 2021-2022 school year. Virtual online school will not be offered for Pre-K through 5th grade students attending Melissa Schools.

The district’s plans to offer a new virtual online school option for grades 6-12 are contingent on the results of the 2021 Texas state legislative session, which does not close until June. Melissa ISD is providing preliminary plans in order to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.

  1. The new virtual online school for grades 6-12 is expected to offer 100% virtual online synchronous and asynchronous instruction and will operate as an independent campus, separate from Melissa High School and Melissa Middle School.
  2. The virtual campus will offer its own set of extracurricular activities that are still to be determined. Students enrolled on the virtual campus will not be eligible for UIL extracurricular activities at Melissa Middle School and Melissa High School.
  3. Melissa ISD students will not have the option to switch back-and-forth between virtual online school and in-person school.

We have created a survey to garner interest from Melissa ISD parents and guardians who expect to enroll their student in virtual online school, if state legislation allows for Melissa ISD to offer this option for grades 6-12 beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.
