Melissa ISD Parents/Guardians: Thank you for your quick response to the survey that we shared on Tuesday. We are grateful for your feedback, as well as your recommendations for continuous improvement at Melissa Schools. Below is a letter to you from Mr. Perez, where he shares some collective thoughts and reflections on behalf of the Melissa ISD administrative team.

Dear Melissa Families,

On Tuesday, June 16, we shared a survey with our community, seeking feedback from our parents and guardians regarding their family’s remote learning experience. In less than two days, over 830 of Melissa ISD households responded to our survey. We thank you for the amount of detailed, constructive feedback that you have shared thus far, and we look forward to more responses coming in.

If you haven’t yet completed our survey, click here to access it.

We also want to take a moment to celebrate our common ground in Melissa: it is clear that our families agree our students need and crave what they experience inside our school buildings, and their interactions with one another and with their teachers.

With that said, we must be committed to developing a robust virtual learning platform that will meet the needs of a remote instruction setting in light of our current circumstances. We heard and agree with many of your recommendations, which align with our district’s goal of continuous improvement.

Like our Cardinal families, we are anxious to plan for the return to school in the fall. At this time, we are cautiously optimistic about what the 2020-2021 school year will look like. However, we are continually monitoring conversations at the local and state level, as we await further guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Governor Greg Abbott regarding return-to-school operations.

It is possible that after the state releases its guidance for public schools, we will reach out to our families again for additional feedback. If you would like your voice to be heard at the state level, you can email the Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, at

Thank you for your time today. We continue to have hope for brighter days ahead.

Partnering with you,

Walter Perez
Executive Director of Elementary Education
