The Melissa High School Mighty Cardinal Band left its mark Saturday at the Sounds of Fall Marching Contest in Princeton, where the band competed against 33 other bands in UIL classification 2A-6A.
The Mighty Cardinal Band swept the competition, winning Grand Champion Music, Grand Champion Colorguard, Most Outstanding 4A Band, and Overall Grand Champion Band of the contest.
This Wednesday, Oct. 19 the band begins the journey to State at the UIL All Region Marching Contest in Princeton. The band is expected to perform at 8:30 p.m.
A note from Trina Fender: “This Wednesday is the most important performance of the year so far. It is the first step on their journey to State. They will need to score a First Division Wednesday to be able to advance to Area on the 29th. Once at Area they will have to score within the top ten bands of the day. Once they successfully score in the top ten, they will have to be one of the top 3 or possibly 4 bands of the day to be able to advance on to State. They cannot do it without your support and cheers. Let’s make the judges sit up and notice our kids on the field. Let’s get the crowd excited! I cannot stress enough how important your presence is at all the remaining contests. Bring along some neighbors if you can. They won’t want to miss this performance.”
