Melissa High School sophomore Judson Greer won the state champion title in cross country at the UIL 4A State Championship last weekend, after winning first place at both the district and regional meets.
Greer ran a 4A record time of 15:02 at the state meet. The boys’ cross country team also placed sixth overall at state.
Junior Alison Kocsis represented the girls’ cross country team at state after qualifying at regionals. Kocsis finished in the 77th position with a time of 12:56.
Earlier this season, the boys’ cross country team finished first at district and second at the regional meet. The girls’ cross country team placed fourth at district. Judson Greer, Jackson Scribner, and Lucas Tauch were nominated for the All-State Cross Country Team.
Clay McCarter is the head coach of the Lady Cardinal cross country team, while Kelley Pitzer coaches the Cardinals. Pitzer commented on the Cardinals’ performance this season.
