Melissa Schools welcomes Walter Perez as the new principal at Harry McKillop Elementary, beginning with the 2016-17 school year.
Since 2013, Perez has served as the principal at Austin Elementary at Tyler ISD. He previously served as an assistant principal and a teacher for 4th grade, 5th grade, and Gifted and Talented (GT) education.
An educator for 19 years, Perez earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ambassador University and his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M.
Keith Murphy, Superintendent of Melissa Schools, welcomed Perez to the district.
“Mr. Perez was introduced to the district a couple of years ago when we were interviewing candidates for another position, and we have since kept in touch,” Murphy said. “He comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge, and he has a wonderful heart for teachers and kids. He will be an excellent fit for the families of McKillop Elementary.”
Perez spoke Tuesday of his new position at Melissa Schools.
“I feel honored and blessed with the opportunity to join Team Melissa at Harry McKillop Elementary,” Perez said. “I look forward to meeting all stakeholders and joining them in the effort to bring students and staff to their full potential. I also look forward to joining the Melissa community along with my wife, Crystal, and our three children: Ittai, 9th grade; Sofia, 6th grade; and Isabella, 4th grade.”
