Melissa Schools has hired Brett Gustaveson as the Assistant Principal at Melissa Ridge Intermediate School for the 2016-17 school year. This will be the first time that this campus has had its own Assistant Principal. The addition of a key administrator marks an encouraging step forward as the district continues to expand.
Gustaveson currently leads the Spanish department at Melissa High School. He was a member of the Melissa High School Design Team for nine years and was named Melissa High School Teacher of the Year for 2012-13.
Gustaveson earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University and his Master of Education from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He has worked in education for 15 years and has been with Melissa Schools since 2007.
Gustaveson spoke Tuesday about his experiences at Melissa High School, and his upcoming transition to a new campus and into an administrative role.
“I have enjoyed every moment of my time spent at Melissa High School,” he said. “The students I have taught over the last nine years have a huge place in my heart. We have made memories here that will last a lifetime. I now look forward to this new opportunity with enthusiasm and energy. I am pumped up to work with a younger group of Cardinals!”
Melissa Ridge Intermediate Principal Tami Hayes added, “I’m very excited to have Brett join our MRI family. His years of Melissa experience will be a great asset as he leads our staff and children. We are excited about the positive energy, support, and high level of Cardinal spirit that he will bring to our campus.”
Dr. Robert Rich, Deputy Superintendent, spoke of Gustaveson’s dedication to the district and his future as an administrator.
“Mr. Gustaveson has shown over the last 10 years a great commitment to our children and families,” Dr. Rich said. “We are all very excited for the future of not only the Melissa Ridge Intermediate campus, but also Mr. Gustaveson as an administrator in our district.”
Melissa Schools administration will seek applicants to fill Gustaveson’s current position later this year.
