It has been brought to our attention that some students are being dropped off on campus before school hours, prior to active staff monitoring, and are then crossing back over Highway 5 to get donuts.
We encourage parents to have an open dialogue with each school-aged child about the importance of not leaving campus once they arrive, especially if it is necessary for them to arrive prior to the school’s appropriate dropoff time frame.
Additionally, we encourage parents to understand campus procedure regarding child dropoffs.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) controls Highway 5. The City of Melissa has been a wonderful partner of Melissa Schools and we will continue to work with them, along with Melissa Schools Police Chief Kelly Davidson and TxDOT, to monitor the safety of all school zones.
Melissa ISD’s return-to-school plans for 2020-2021 were updated on July 30, 2020 with more extensive information and protocols. Please be advised that conditions surrounding the coronavirus pandemic are ever-changing. Plans for the upcoming year could change at any time in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. The district will continue to notify families of any and all major updates that are published.
