In a unanimous vote at the Jan. 21 Melissa Schools Board of Trustees meeting, the Board approved the extension of Superintendent Keith Murphy’s contract through 2018.
“I am very blessed to be the Superintendent in Melissa, Texas,” Murphy said Friday. “As you can imagine, it is a huge responsibility. During the first 22 months of my tenure, I faced many challenges, but our staff is truly making a difference for our kids. We are all blessed with the opportunity to help develop the footprint of our fast growth district.”
MISD Board President George James reflected Friday on Murphy’s performance and future plans. “Keith Murphy has done an outstanding job for the district and we were pleased to extend his contract,” James said. “Mr. Murphy has a plan to improve the educational experience for our kids and has been successfully implementing this plan. In addition to moving key employees to various positions within the district to benefit kids, he has also worked hard to secure additional funding and facilities that will again benefit the children of our district.”
Board member Dr. Bill Gray added, “In my opinion, Mr. Murphy is deserving of contract extension. He has improved the district in all aspects and has a definite plan for further improvement. I look forward to working with him in the years to come.”
