Based on what we now know about the statewide magnitude of the recent winter storms, the Melissa Ridge Education Center will remain closed for one additional week, from February 22-26, 2021, and students do not need to log in for remote asynchronous instruction or virtual instruction during this time.
Due to new guidance released by the Texas Education Agency on Feb. 18, Melissa ISD can apply for a waiver so that early childhood and Kindergarten students will not have to make up this week of school. As a reminder, Melissa ISD students will have school on the built-in Bad Weather Makeup Days on March 29 and May 27.
In the upcoming week, teachers at the Melissa Ridge Education Center will work to salvage their classrooms, prepare to receive students in-person, and reach out to connect with their students. School officials will continue to evaluate and finalize plans for the Melissa Ridge Education Center moving forward, including classroom instruction, transportation, and food services.
Parents and guardians can expect to receive an update no earlier than Wednesday with the modified plans for in-person school and general operations at the Melissa Ridge Education Center.
For those interested in participating in community response efforts related to the Melissa Ridge Education Center flooding, there are volunteer opportunities for packing and moving classrooms on Monday, Feb. 22 and Tuesday, Feb. 23.
