In the early hours of Tuesday, February 16, a number of ceiling water pipes throughout the Melissa Ridge Education Center burst as a result of frigid, below-freezing temperatures. This led to widespread flooding throughout the building, and a large portion of the facility is now unusable.
School officials are working diligently to assess the resulting damage at the Melissa Ridge Education Center and determine a path forward for in-person learners in Kindergarten, Pre-K, and ECSE, as well as the district’s employee childcare.
Melissa ISD announced earlier this afternoon that the district will be closed for the remainder of the week, through Friday, February 19, due to winter weather-related conditions and widespread flooding at the Melissa Ridge Education Center.
For the week of February 22-26, all students who attend in-person school at the Melissa Ridge Education Center will transition to remote asynchronous instruction. Virtual learners will return to virtual school next week.
Melissa ISD will continue to update families as new information becomes available. At the bottom of this post, you will find photos that depict some of the flood-related damage at the Melissa Ridge Education Center.
