Melissa Booster Clubs, Inc. hosted the 15th Annual Melissa Open Golf Tournament last Saturday and raised over $100,000 through sponsorships. This is the largest amount raised in tournament history.
The Melissa Booster Club supports the athletics and fine arts programs at Melissa Schools. This includes end-of-year award banquets, senior night recognitions, equipment, concession stand support, and hospitality rooms for coaches and referees at basketball and baseball tournaments.
“We have so many players who look forward to this event every year – some have even played all 15 years,” said Cindy Kasson, tournament coordinator. “The weather was perfect for golf which helped make it a really great day. We just can’t thank our sponsors and players enough, as this is the largest amount we’ve raised in the 15 year history. I would also like to give a special thank you to MHS junior Hannah Harris for joining us to sing the National Anthem.”
The first place team included Dr. Robert Rich, Matt Newton, Ryan Dittfurth, and Seth Rich. The second place team included Louis Welch, Scott Bandemir, Brian Adams, and Chris Gatlin.
Matt Newton won the Putting Contest and David Crain won the Chipping Contest. Skyler Zadow won the Women’s Longest Drive and Dan Booth won the Men’s Longest Drive.
Players who were Closest to Pin included Keith Hernandez at #4, Alex Walston at #6, Eric Horton at #12, and Zach Stinton at #16.

Next year’s golf tournament is scheduled for May 5, 2019.
