Melissa ISD offers free, reduced-price meal program for qualifying families

The Child Nutrition program at Melissa Schools offers free and reduced-price meals for students who meet the program qualifications.

For qualifying students, a reduced-price breakfast meal costs 30 cents and a reduced-price lunch meal costs 40 cents. Students who qualify for free meals will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost each school day.

Who qualifies for free or reduced-price meals at school?

Free or Reduced-Price Meals:

  • If the child’s household gross income is within the limits described in the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines, as described in the application.

Free Meals:

  • Children in households receiving benefits from SNAP, FDPIR, or TANF.
    • SNAP – Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
    • FDPIR – Food Distribution Program for Households on Indian Reservations.
    • TANF – Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
  • Foster children under the legal responsibility of a foster care agency or court.
  • Children participating in Head Start or Early Head Start.
  • Children who meet the definition of homeless, runaway, or migrant.
  • Some WIC recipients.

How can I apply for my child to receive free or reduced-price meals?

A copy of the free or reduced-price meal application will be available at your child’s Meet the Teacher or Open House night. The application can also be accessed online on the Child Nutrition page, linked below, and printed copies are available at each school in Melissa ISD.

Qualifying families are required to complete a new application each school year in order for their child to receive free or reduced-price meals at school. Families with multiple school-aged children are only required to complete one family application each school year.
